Ang BAYAN KO by Freddie Aguilar: Reflection Journal

Please reflect on the lyrics of the song Ang BAYAN KO, popularized by Freddie Aguilar. Explain how does the message of the song reflect on the concept of freedom.

For more than 300 years of being a slave in your own country, I sometimes wonder how does it feel to be controlled by someone else in your own house. You know, when you need to follow orders from a person you barely know. Ah, it is similar with being holdup in your own home. You have no choice but to give everything or that criminal might kill you and your loved ones. It is a burning feeling of witnessing how much your family experience abused in your own house and being helpless.

That is how I perceived by the burning desire of our national heroes to revolutionized and condemned war. I now wonder how hard life was back then. I realized how much painful it was to be helpless in situations you know you cannot control. I felt how powerless I was when I lack the freedom to do what I want. But to imagined how brave these heroes are was such an exciting climax to a story. It was the burning desire of freedom inside them that fueled their actions to seek freedom. Thankfully, it worked!

We can now decide as a country. From celebrating independence to choosing candidates from election. We always celebrate the freedom. However, we sometimes forgot our responsibility as a citizen. The freewill of selecting our leaders is in our own hands. We voted for whom we feel can help the country grow but unfortunately, dirty diapers have been exposed.

With my years of existence, each generation has a battle of freedom that we must conquer. Freeing the country was just one of those. Today, we need to be free from abusive rulers. Our late heroes’ fight was done years ago. Our generations’ battle has been just started.

Being at the legal means having the freedom to vote. Though we will never know how the term will go out, it will always be our responsibility to deal with bad governance at the end. We must use the freedom that our ancestors have missed. We must fight those toxic dirty diapers in the view of free country heads off. We must act now. This is the battle of our generations. Let us free our country. Let us use this freedom wisely.

Bearing the legal age, I will use my freedom to vote to help free my country from unnecessary debts and clown officials. I know at the end, I will be the one who will suffer from my actions and choices so I must analyze critically. I am tired to see my people paid off debts that my country owed due to bad governance. And now that this is my time to held responsibilities, I declare to myself I shall use it mindfully and took responsibility with what it might cause in the future.
